Please, join us in this effort! VUB offers a wide array of services and activities to meet the individual educational needs and aspirations of veterans. Brush up on your academic skills for college success. VUB provides a day and evening schedule of instruction and tutoring to refresh and develop your skills in math, English and more. VUB staff will tailor a program of skills development based on your test assessments, educational, and career goals that addresses your individualized needs.

VUB has flexible learning options and will make every effort to arrange instruction and tutoring that can accommodate your schedule and time commitments. There is no tuition cost to VUB participants. Books and supplies are provided by VUB. Books need to be returned at the end of each semester or when the student terminates participation in the VUB Program. Classes are not for credit nor are they transferable; they are an opportunity to refresh and develop the academic skills required for success in college.

During scheduled office hours, our math and English instructors are available for additional support, to provide further instruction and help students with math and English questions.

The pursuit of higher education is part of the ultimate goal of earning a college degree. Garza pursued her doctoral program in urban education and multicultural studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After completing preliminary examinations, she transitioned to faculty at Alverno College as the director of community leadership and development and assistant professor in social sciences.

The degree focused on nonprofit agencies, politics, social change initiatives, local, state, or national governmental institutions, and community development globally. As an educator, Ms. Garza is passionate about the empowerment and transformation that occurs as a result of engaging students through servant leadership, cultural inclusion and respect for human dignity.

Natalia Ornelas is a senior advisor for the Upward Bound program. Ornelas enjoys advising students and motivating them to reach their full potential.

She meets with students daily to discuss their academic goals, difficulties and accomplishments. Upward Bound alumni and their success continue to keep her inspired as an advisor.

Ornelas was born and raised on the south side of Milwaukee. Being an Upward Bound Alum inspired his personal goals to assist first-generation and low-income students from all backgrounds with preparing for, planning for, and eventually attending college. He enjoys working with students and helping them succeed in their academic and career goals. Participating in the association also offers you networking opportunities with other TRIO alumni and opportunities to give back to current students.

Philip Spencer. The Upward Bound Math and Science program is designed for students with a serious interest in Math and Science careers. The programs serve low-income and first-generation students who reside in Milwaukee's central city as defined by zip codes ,- 05, , , , , , , , , and or who attend one of the program's target schools.
