My Windows 10 and most others due to Microsoft automatic updates are currently at Directx 12 so to avoid conflict I ignored install of Directx 9. Starting the program with Directx 9 not installed results in errors that indicate the Directx 9 dlls are missing and the start fails. It also seems that there is no "backward" compatibility re the higher version per se, because a given program needs a particular version to function.
I uninstalled iClone, created a restore point, reinstalled iClone with Directx 9, rebooted without a problem, and lastly started iClone without a problem.
