Sarah, That should have a compression type vinyl jamb. The sash is held in by pressure against the sides. You have to push out away from the sash toward the jamb to pull the sash in towards you.

I have a French door with a Caradco lock on it. It is a gold handle that when you lift it up it engages the dead bolt and then you turn the little gold knob under the handle to the left and it locks that lock too.
