It may of course be only one fragment of one file.
When it asks for the CD, click Try again, sometimes it then finds it without asking you a second time. If Try again does not work, click ignore and see if still repeats the request. What exactly is it that you are having difficulty understanding. If the computer was one where the XP CD had been copied to another partition on the hard drive, as is frequently done, to circumvent the chance of the CD being lost or damaged when it is required, then instead of the source path, being the CD drive or in this case as you do not have the CD being the root of C Drive, then the source path would be the partition on which the CD has been copied to.
As you do not have the CD copied to another partition you must, as you have, change the source path to the root of C drive. Then just this morning the exact same thing happened so I didn't bother with the XP CD insert and googled the problem. I did some searching on this and somebody with a similar problem although using XP Pro had to do something about making the CD rom accessible on the local machine, but the procedure wouldn't work on HOME edition. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. I'm running XP Media Edition not sure which version -- when I look at "System" in the Control panel it says version , but the OS disk that came with my computer says version with update rollup 2. In any case, I only have one installation disk, and when I insert it, the computer tells me it's the wrong disk. What do I do? This thread is locked.
